HOW THE MAPS WERE MADE
Here’s what went Coinstar point into making each of 31 gorgeous map illustrations. First my son-in-law gave me all the topographical maps of the coast. I enlarged each of the areas I wanted to map, printed them out and traced the outline. Then we sailed to all of the places over a period of 3 summers. Taking a tracing of the map, I then walked the trails tracking them on a GPS (actually my iphone!). Then back on the boat I made a fair copy with all the details of interesting points along the trail. Once we got home I got on a plane and flew to Vernon where Molly turned my sketch maps into the beautiful illustrations you will see in the book. I think there were about 5 trips in all to the Okanagan! It was a huge amount of work, particularly for Molly, but the end result is fabulous! What an amazing artist she is!
